Scrunchie with trim tutorial:
Cut fabric:
4 to 5 inches wide of main fabric x width of fabric (min 36 inches).
1 1/2 inches wide x width of contrasting fabric or (min. 36 inches).
11 inches of 1/4 inch wide elastic
Construction:
Sew the 2 fabric colours together lengthwise and iron with the seam pointing towards the main fabric.
Trim the ends so that they are even then sew together creating a circle.
Use the Burrito method (see guide) to finish constructing the scrunchie sides.
Time to insert the elastic. Use a bobkin or even a safety pin, thread your elastic through the opening, taking care to not let the end follow inside. Tie in a firm knot and tuck inside.
This part can be a little tricky but it is not really. You will be closing the opening at the same time as setting the trim into it's permanent place around the edge.
The idea is to make sure that the trim section is about the evenness same on each side of the scrunchie. You will be able to tell by feeling for the little bump where the seam is that joined the two fabrics together.
Best spot to start is right before the opening. Put your needle down setting on if you have it, or turn the hand wheel. This will help to hold things in place while you manuver to the next section.
